As our fall-colored days grow colder, remember to drink lots of warm beverages and turn on your space heaters before using the studio. Keep in mind that you can indeed microwave your clay to warm it up! And should you need a supplier for your incoming holiday stock or gifts, you know you can always come to Stone Leaf.

For first-time kiln owners or those transitioning to newer models, this hands-on intro workshop covers the ins and outs of electric kilns. We’ll walk through the basics of kiln use, including loading, programming, maintenance, and troubleshooting, with plenty of tips & tricks along the way.
Taught by Stone Leaf Pottery store manager, Joseph Allen, this beginner-friendly class is ideal for anyone new to firing and looking to build confidence with their kiln.
Cost: $75 — or FREE with the purchase of a new kiln from Stone Leaf Pottery within the past two years! Bagels and coffee provided!

Credit for December’s Tip of the Month goes to Gene Ritchie Monahan.
When I was a young potter, with no studio or equipment of my own yet, I met a well established artist, a portraitist, painter, and silk screen artist, Gene Ritchie Monahan. At the time, Gene was living in Rainer, Minnesota; I was living in International Falls, Minnesota. Gene became my mentor and friend.
I remember well a key piece of advice from her. She said, “If you are going to pursue the life of an artist, you must work every day. Every day. There are always tasks that need to be done. If you are not creating, clean your studio, work on your (financial) books. Work every day.”
I took that to heart. Of course, there are days where I don’t engage in work, but there are close to zero days when I don’t think about creating with clay. Engage mentally, focus, and plan ahead. If you want your life as an artist to thrive, work on your art every day in some way. Thanks Gene!

Drop off for our firing services is December 12th so be sure to schedule your appointment ahead of time, as our calendar tends to fill up quickly!
Winter isn’t coming, winter is here! While it’s been a sunnier fall than we’re used to, should there be excessive snow, we’ll keep our customers alert of any schedule changes affected by weather via our social media (Instagram, Facebook). Feel free to call or message us if you think we might be closed.
A notice to our customers! We don’t take clay returns during the freezing months. However, if glaze has been bought within the month, we will accept returns on glaze.

It's not uncommon for us to run out of the clay(s) of the Month, so we always suggest you shop early in the Month to ensure the clay is in stock. Also, when purchasing Glaze or Tool(s), or Equipment of the Month, again, it's limited to products on hand. So, if we don't have it when you shop, come shop with us again soon! We replenish our shelves constantly—we'll hopefully have more soon! Got more questions about how this works? Please, please reach out to us!
During the freezing months, we will not accept returns on clay or liquid chemical products such as wax resist. As much as we wish we could take back that half-frozen bag of B-Mix, we can’t repurpose it. Thank you for being mindful.
