September '25 Newsletter

Published by Elise on Sep 2nd 2025

This summer’s been full of opportunities, fabulous projects and clay-covered fun. We’re approaching fall and couldn’t be more excited to sink into cooler weather. Bring on the rain, the long-sleeved shirts and space heaters. We’re itching for fall!

There are no workshops for September, but keep an eye out for October, when we’ll host an Electric Kiln Workshop.

For first-time kiln owners or those transitioning to newer models, this hands-on intro workshop covers the ins and outs of electric kilns—perfect for beginners! We’ll walk through the basics of kiln use, including loading, programming, maintenance, and troubleshooting, with plenty of tips & tricks along the way.

Taught by Stone Leaf Pottery store manager Joseph Allen, this beginner-friendly class is ideal for anyone new to firing and looking to build confidence with their kiln.

Join us Saturday, October 11 from 9:00am–1:00pm. Cost: $75 — or FREE with the purchase of a new kiln from Stone Leaf Pottery within the past two years!

CLAY OF THE MONTH
Laguna
Redstone Cone 6

The first 100 pounds* you purchase of WC420 Redstone, one of Stone Leaf’s classic favorites, will be at the 2000# price during September (that’s a savings of 15¢ per pound). You know Redstone as your favorite medium-grit red mid-fire clay body, but it’s so much more! It’s perfect for outdoor projects, with such a tight structure that it can weather the elements no problem. Thinking about making a bird fountain, a garden stack, an outdoor planter or a cute garden gnome? Redstone’s where it’s at! Redstone is a deep, gorgeous red with enough tooth to keep your larger pieces standing on the wheel or hand-built on the work table. Marble it, sculpt it, throw it—it’ll do wonders in every situation.

Want to see an example of Redstone marbled? Check out this stunning Instagram post!

*Valid only in September 2025 and not combinable/stackable with other clay discounts.

Staff Interview: Elise Goitia

For our September Stone Leaf Pottery staff interview, we have yours truly! I wanted to give a short introduction to the person who’s been writing the Stone Leaf newsletter since 2022. Hello all, my name is Elise! Lita Clay is my pottery alias and you can follow my adventures in clay  on Instagram under lita.clay.ceramics. I’m a writer and ceramicist, with a deep love for nature and organic forms.

[SLP]  What’s your strongest focus in pottery?

[ELISE] I started out with throwing and have progressively moved towards hand-building. These days I love to sculpt botanicals and small creatures. My favorite thing is to create flower arrangements and ecosystems on thrown vessels that speak to an innate connection to biodiversity. I also love creating complex glaze combinations in mid-fire commercial glazing! My goal is to mimic cone 10 reduction firing-results in mid-fire stoneware glazes, which I’ll do by layering up to 10 mid-fire glazes at a time.

[SLP] What do you love about pottery? What do you love about your art?

[ELISE] Pottery’s ever-changing! There’s always a new idea, or something you haven’t tried before. You wake up and BAM: new project. My favorite thing about my art is it’s a show of who I am internally. Like my work, I also feel delicate, or explosive, or romantic at times. When it isn’t easy to put into words, I aim to put myself into my work. Pottery’s a perfect language for the unspoken parts of you.

[SLP] How many years have you been making pottery?

[ELISE]  I had a college course in 2018, re-discovered it in 2020, and launched my business Lita Clay officially in 2022! I’ve been making pottery since then, with Stone Leaf nurturing my creative soul every step of the way.

[SLP] Kiss, marry, kill: throwing, hand-building, glazing?
[ELISE] Kiss glazing, marry handbuilding, kill throwing. I actually love throwing but haven’t been able to do it much with a wrist injury. So kiss all three, marry all three, and then kill all three out of passionate, ubiquitous love.

[SLP]  What’s your secret weapon of pottery tools?
[ELISE] For throwing, this tiny Xiem rib. For hand-building, the Xiem finishing tool set.

[SLP] What’s your favorite clay body recently?

[ELISE] I love Redstone, our clay of the month, totally unironically. I also love Iceman by Kentucky Mudworks.

[SLP]  Advice for a young grasshopper?

[ELISE] Every art has hardships, but this art has more hardships than others! Including breakable pieces, long making and finishing processes and up-in-the-air results. Don’t get stumped by individual points of the journey. It’s all conducive towards making you a great ceramicist—confident in what you make, and good at both letting go and celebrating the wins.

It was nice to officially meet you all!

Elise and the Stone Leaf Pottery Crew

All Clay of the Month purchases are limited to 100# of clay. The sale price is valid only in September 2025 and not combinable/stackable with other clay discounts.

It's not uncommon for us to run out of the clay(s) of the Month, so we always suggest you shop early in the Month to ensure the clay is in stock. Also, when purchasing Glaze or Tool(s), or Equipment of the Month, again, it's limited to products on hand. So, if we don't have it when you shop, come shop with us again soon! We replenish our shelves constantly—we'll hopefully have more soon! Got more questions about how this works? Please, please reach out to us!

During the freezing months, we will not accept returns on clay or liquid chemical products such as wax resist. As much as we wish we could take back that half-frozen bag of B-Mix, we can’t repurpose it. Thank you for being mindful.
