June 2022

The world is a confusing place right now but here’s hoping your studio practice is helping make sense of things. I always find that art is the best way to process emotions so let the clay, and whatever else makes you happy, soothe your soul.

You may have heard but if you haven’t, Stone Leaf is hiring! We are looking for someone to help out in the warehouse, so repeatedly lifting heavy items is a must and working on Saturdays is non-negotiable. There are fantastic perks to working here, some of them a little unusual, plus you get to hang out with this awesome crew! Reach out to Ripley at deliveries@stoneleafpottery.com if you are interested or if someone you know is interested. We look forward to finding a great person to add to our work family.

Now, on to the specials….

Clay of the Month:
Ice Man with Grog ^5-7 from Kentucky Mudworks
Usually $23 per bag, on special for $17.50
Most of the potters that I’ve spoken with about KY Mudworks products are big fans. We first started carrying the Ice Man a while back but have had some requests for a white stoneware with a little texture. Enter: Ice man with grog! This clay is a slightly textured version of the fan favorite which lends itself to larger thrown pieces and works wonderfully for handbuilding and slab work. I personally love a clay with some sand or grog so this one is right up my alley. Try some today if you’re looking for a body with a little more stability. Link at Kentucky Mudworks tells me she *may or may not have named it after Mr. Iceman himself.*

Glaze of the Month:
Stoneware Washes 4oz from Mayco
20% off retail pricing
I think Mayco had a great idea when they launched this product line. Dealing with powdered chemicals in your studio can be a huge hassle and let's face it, a little dangerous, unless you have the proper setup with ventilation and a respirator, etc. Mayco has taken all of these factors out of the equation with their ready made stoneware washes. Available in cobalt, manganese, copper, rutile, and red iron oxide, these small containers pack a punch and add another layer to your glazing routine and textured pieces. A little bit goes a long way so remember to water down what you’re using in a separate container. A perfect addition to anyone's glaze cupboard.

Tool of the Month:
Mushroom Anvils from Garrity Tools
Available a la carte and in sets
20% off retail
I cannot express how excited I am that Garrity has redesigned and re-released their mushroom anvils. I feel like I’ve been (patiently) waiting for ages and now I’ve been rewarded with this fantastic tool. Not only are these tools functional but they looks so good while doing it! The peeps at Garrity tools hand make these in St. Louis from cherry hardwood. My favorite part is that I can roll in texture to my slab then use one of these and not have the delicate texture destroyed. For best results, I suggest finding a nice piece of foam that you can use to press the clay and mushroom into. They now have sizes 3”-6” available a la carte or you can buy the whole set if you’ve fallen in love like I did.

Thanks for reading and I’m wishing everyone a safe holiday. We will have shortened hours, tomorrow - that’s July 2 - from 10 am to 2 pm.

Happy potting!
