Published by Elise on Jan 1st 2025
Welcome 2025 to our wonderful customers! We’re excited to embrace the new year. With our goals set and hearts full, we’re kicking off 2025 with our favorite things of all: throwing, sculpting and working with clay! Celebrate with your favorite ceramic goods retailer by swinging by and saying hello.
To all of our new kiln owners, there’s an EKW this month! Happening Saturday, January 11th, it’ll go from 8:30am to 1:30pm.
These workshops are excellent for learning more about how to properly approach your electric kiln. The cost is $75 or free with purchase of one new kiln from Stone Leaf Pottery in the last two years! One kiln = one EKW. Sign up at the front counter, order online or give us a call! NOTE: If you’ve purchased a kiln, you’re still required to officially sign up in order to be a part of the workshop. We have some fabulous January specials lined up for you!
CLAY OF THE MONTH
#16 Porcelain by Laguna, $.96/pound up to 100#
We’re wishing for snow, so one of our favorite mid-fire porcelain bodies is on special this month: #16 Porcelain! A beautiful soft white, #16 works like a dream and fires translucently. If you’re familiar with #15 Porcelain, #16 is similar, but it’s made with more ball clay making it more plastic. If you’re a beginner potter, don’t be afraid. #16 is a great porcelain to test your skills given its forgiving nature. Perfect for both handbuilding and throwing, this clay makes an ideal addition to any ceramicist’s preferred bodies.

TOOL OF THE MONTH
Sweet Rolling Pins, 10% off
Let’s paint a picture: it’s your first day at Stone Leaf, you walk down the tools aisle and BAM: you see these on the wall. They’re covered in gorgeous patterns, bees, mountains, you name it, and you pass them up because you don’t have a good enough reason to buy one. But for January, YOU DO! Sweet Rolling Pins are on special this month! An absolute must-have for you or the baker or potter in your life, the wooden barrel measures 10" x 2"; including handles, the entire pin measures 17” x 2”. A local Coloradan company, these pins are made with love. Showing off a variety of patterns, there’s a Sweet Rolling Pin for every ceramicist.

GLAZE OF THE MONTH
Blue Snowflakes by Laguna, 10% off
A gift for our mid-fire crystalline lovers, the much sought-after Blue Snowflakes is on special this month! Named for the azure crystals that bloom across an iridescent buff-color, this glaze truly does look like small snowflakes blooming across a vessel. It’s a runny one, as crystalline glazes commonly are, so be sure to put your pieces on top of cookies and catchplates in the kiln. Turn an ordinary project into a winter fantasy with one of our all-time favorite crystalline glazes!
These crystalline glazes are developed to bloom effortlessly on a simple firing schedule. Here’s the glaze’s firing schedule:
Segment 1: Ramp 250ºF per hour to 1250ºF
Segment 2: Ramp 350º per hour to 2140°F
Segment 3: Ramp 25° per hour to 2165°F
Segment 4: 9999 cool down, then 1950°F for 3 hours OFF

Now for Ingrid’s Tip of the Month!
This month, it’s on limiting clay delivery costs.
“We get it. The cost of clay is compounded by having it delivered or driven to Stone Leaf Pottery to pick it up. You can save money on clay deliveries by:
- combining orders with potter friends
- asking a friend who lives near Stone Leaf Pottery, and works with you to pick up your prepaid order—NOTE: pre-payments are only allowed for this, and must happen within 24 hours of pick-up time.
- send your offspring
- teachers, ask for parent volunteers
- you know your friends periodically shop at Costco. There is one just minutes away from Stone Leaf Pottery. Ask them to stop by and pick up your prepaid order.
Big Reminder: Do not let your clay and glaze freeze! We do not accept returns on any products that contain water during the cold weather months.”
Attention: You might’ve noticed we have a box accepting donations beneath our firing desk! We’re accepting donations for Empty Bowls at Bear Creek High School, information below on the flyer. Donate your glazed ceramic bowls, mugs and other handmade pieces. Donated pieces will be auctioned off at the Empty Bowls charity event with proceeds going to the Action Center. Email mimi.blanch@jeffco.k12.co.us for more information or visit the Empty Bowls website!
Give a welcome to a new pottery business in Arvada, Let’s Paint! Pottery Studio. Let’s Paint offers a wide selection of pottery to glaze. The pieces you buy and glaze there will be fired there. For more information, their website is letspaintpottery.com, phone: 720-674-3764.
If you need a 2024 sales summary for tax information please email Sophia at sophia@stoneleafpottery.com.
Need an inspirational boost? Take a peek at our bulletin board at the entrance of our retail store for more upcoming events, classes and information on local pottery to-dos!
Lastly, keep an eye out on social media for snow announcements! As the winter season gets chillier (and hopefully snowier), openings may be delayed or we’ll close if weather looks bad. We prioritize our staff and customer safety.
There are some great events happening in January!
We have the 43rd Annual Colorado Indian Market & Southwest Art Fest on January 25 - 26 at the Colorado Convention Center. Come and join in the celebration of Native American artwork and heritage, intermingled with booths of juried artwork inspired by the Southwest and the Wild West. There will be performances with tribes in intricate historic regalia with a dazzling lineup of award-winning Native American entertainers gracing the stage. Want more information on this event? Check out their website!
The First Friday Art Walks on Santa Fe are a wonderful way to see new and local artists! Happening every First Friday of the month 5:30pm - 9:30pm, you can see a fantastic collection of local artists and vendors on Santa Fe Drive. Check out more information on their website.
That’s all for now! Happy New Year and we look forward to seeing you around the store.
