  • Introducing Dark Star! If you like speckles in your clay but are looking for a body that keeps your glazes brighter, check out this new clay body. Based off of our very popular Ice Man clay body, Dark Star is easy to throw and handbuild with and is very forgiving, smooth, and plastic. Matures cone 5-6. Can be pushed to cone 7 slow fired. Shrinkage 11.5% Absorption at ^6 1.7% WE ALWAYS, ALWAYS RECOMMEND SLOW FIRING SPEEDS IN BOTH BISQUE AND GLAZE WHEN USING ANY CLAY BODY THAT CONTAINS MANGANESE SPECKS DUE TO OFF GASSING. This allows the gasses time to escape properly from the ware.

  • **We recommend bisque firing SLOW speed no higher than ^06 and always SLOW speed glaze firing. A nice super smooth, plastic body that fires a dark chocolate brown at cones 5-6. Matures cone 5-6. Won't bloat at soft cone 7 if fired slow through the last 300-400F. Contains no grog. Gives nice warmth to glazes, giving that reduction look to them in oxidation. *Our tests with our Super clear glaze gave us little to no bubbles or green tint to the clear glaze. Contains less than 2% Manganese. Shrinkage 11% Abs at cone 6 0.2%

  • Our Flagstone is a blend of two high-iron content clays, ball clays and other materials to achieve plasticity and strength. Additions of grog reduce shrinkage and warping while giving the clay body the ability to hold its shape in forming operations. We have been making Flagstone for many years with great results, and it is one of our most popular clays designed for use on the wheel and hand building projects. Its color is medium brown in reduction and light brown in oxidation kiln atmospheres.

  • This clay also has an exceptional firing range! Dover fully vitrifies at cone 6, but will fire at cone 10 beautifully. Try it out, I guarantee you will like it! One of the most complex tasks when developing a white stoneware clay body is to achieve a white fired color clay with excellent handling properties. With this formula, we have achieved our goal. We have merged a range of high-quality white clays and precisely-controlled ceramic materials to form unique qualities compatible in throwing and hand building forming operations. Our Dover white stoneware clay fires to a lush white in oxidation and reduction kiln atmospheres. A unique quality of our clay is its ability to impart traditional orange peel effects in salt or soda kilns due to the sodium in the kiln atmosphere reacting with the alumina and silica in the clay body.
