Summer Workshop Series for Teachers

Summer Pottery Workshops for Teachers
Stone Leaf Pottery has a summer series designed for primary and secondary teachers. If you want to increase your teaching skill set, manage your studio classroom better, and sharpen your understanding of pottery processes, consider joining Ingrid King for one or more of these informative classes.

Classes will be from 8am to 11am on 5 consecutive Tuesday mornings.  The last day to register for an individual class is the Sunday prior to each class, no walk ins. Signed up but can’t attend? Give your spot to a friend. No refunds or rain checks unless class is cancelled.

Tuesday, June 23: Go Farther on your School Budget

  • Free and cheap stuff
  • Making your own tools
  • Money saving tips with clay
  • Money saving tips with glaze

Tuesday, June 30: Basic Hand Building Techniques

Learn ways to make ideas more accessible to different ages and skill sets.  Participants can expect to complete the clay work for 4 – 5 projects that can be used for lesson plans.   Includes bisque firing if participant is also registered for Glaze Basics for the Classroom, 7/21/15.
Participant supply list: sponge, needle tool (Kemper PRO, or scratching tool, cocktail fork), short blade (Kemper K34 or thin plastic knife), wire tool (Kemper K35), wooden tool (or tiny spoon), box to carry away projects if not firing at Stone Leaf.

Tuesday, July 7: How to Teach Throwing

Teaching throwing is not the same as throwing for yourself.  This class will cover basics as well as techniques to help students with strength and mobility issues, strategies to provide a throwing experience in a classroom with limited wheels and limited class time.  The focus is on demo and discussion.  Bring standard throwing tools and a bat if you want hands on help.

Tuesday, July 14: Kiln and Firing Schedule Management for Schools

Taking a pottery class or two in college seldom covers firing, and managing firing for a school program can be very intimidating.  Learn some kiln and firing management and you might lower your stress levels too!

Tuesday, July 21: Glaze Basics for the Classroom

Participant Supply List: strictly BYOB – bring your own brushes.  Bring brushes that you provide in your classroom, or similar.

$20 per class, due upon registration.
