Pumpkins, leaves, ghosts, and skulls… fall images float through my head. I think of Halloween and enjoy planning out my Halloween costume each year. One of my favorite fall activities in clay is decorating many plates and mugs with sugar skulls to give as gifts and sell at fall pottery sales.
Dia de Los Muertos (or Day of the Dead) is November 1st, and all of the preparation for this special day to remember your deceased loved ones take place primarily in October. What better way to spend time in October than making your own Dia de Los Muertos piece?
In this class, Gita will be using Duncan EZ Stroke Underglazes to decorate wares with funky & colorful calavera (sugar skulls) of your own design. Participants for this class need to bring one smooth piece of bisque with a majolica base on it OR a piece of greenware to decorate during this class.
Gita will be demonstrating how to create your design and best use EZ Strokes either on top of a majolica white base (which needs to be applied prior to class) OR using the EZ Stroke directly on greenware.
For class, please bring:
1.) One piece of bisque with 3 coats of a white majolica base glaze. This piece may be either earthenware or mid-fire. (Cone 04/06 OR Cone 5/6)
1.) On piece of greenware to decorate directly onto.
** Either piece must be flat with no texture for best results. **
2.) Your favorite brushes.
3.) Any EZ Strokes that you may already own.
During the class, Stone Leaf will be supplying a variety of EZ Stroke colors to use, but not the entire EZ Stroke rainbow. Patterns and ideas will be provided. For some inspiration prior to the class, check out our Pinterest Sugar Skull Page.
Cost for this class does not include firing, although firing may be arranged for an additional fee.
