September Newsletter

The end of the summer season is upon us. I know some people are absolutely relieved that sweater weather is on the horizon. I myself am a huge fan of crisp air and cuddling up in my warm flannel. I will be celebrating the end of the season with an annual excursion to my favorite place… Lakeside! Summer isn’t summer until I’ve been to the oldest amusement park in the United States and eaten a funnel cake. I hope everyone has enjoyable plans for the final days of summer.

Fall also means the Colorado Art Education Association conference (CAEA) is right around the corner. Ingrid is busy getting all of the make and take projects ready for our booth. If you’re a teacher and are attending, make sure to stop by and say hello! We will have lots of fun ideas and giveaways.

Recently, we have had a few changes within our staff. Kelsey and Kylle both have made some giant strides within in their lives, pursuing new schooling and career opportunities. We of course will miss them but know they are doing great things in their journey called life. We wish them all the best! With the both of them moving on, we needed some new staff members to help here in the shop. We are so pleased to welcome Britt and Kate to the Stone Leaf family. I’ve asked them to write a blurb introducing themselves to everyone so keep your eyes peeled for that soon. Please say hello the next time you’re in the store!

A reminder that we have an Electric Kiln Workshop coming up on the 15th of September from 9-1 and the cost is $40. This a great opportunity to acquire a better understanding of your kiln, with lots of tips and tricks Ingrid has amassed over her decades of firing. Just a reminder, if you have purchased a kiln from us within the last year, this class is free to you. If you would like to register, please give us a call to do so.

Clay of the Month:
Laguna’s Cone 5 ½ and ½, $11 per bag

This clay is an equal blend of stoneware and porcelain, hence the name. Laguna began manufacturing this clay because their cone 10 version is so well loved. The combination makes for a beautifully workable body suitable for throwing and handbuilding alike.

Glaze of the Month:
Rusted Iron SW 175 from Mayco, 25% off in stock pints

We love Mayco glazes! And we love this brand new glaze they just released. It has a lovely semi-matte finish with luscious tones of red, orange and brown. It looks great as a stand alone glaze or pair it with other products within their stoneware line, like their flux or other stunning colors.

Tool of the Month:
Studio Pro Space Saver bat sets, 10% off

People were definitely distraught recently when they found out the drop in bat sets were no longer being produced by the Wonderbat company. Luckily, a customer of ours gave us a tip there was a new company making similar sets of bats in New England. We are happy to report that we are now a distributor of the Space Saver bat sets! They do work with the old style of drop in sets and are available for purchase individually or within a set. This month we have them on special for everyone to try!

As always, happy potting!

XOXO,
Gita and the Stone Leaf crew
