At Stone Leaf Pottery, we understand an art teacher’s job is to educate, inspire and give students meaningful art experiences. That’s why we here at Stone Leaf wanted to share an opportunity to give your students a real world experience in the wonderful art scene that Colorado has to offer.
Now in it’s 14th year, the Janus Student Art Buying Program is an experimental program started by Janus, a global investment management company based in Denver. In this program teachers can win a budget to be used for purchasing a piece of art work to be permanently installed at their school from the renowned Cherry Creek Arts Festival.
We all know how imperative art programs are for our kids and communities. This one-of-a-kind opportunity cultivates student’s skills such as teamwork, negotiation, art appreciation and buying, public speaking and the importance of artistry. It’s a great way for students to learn about supporting their local artists and art scene, as well.
Twenty four schools will be chosen to receive an in-class study guide with curriculum and exercises to help students understand and appreciate art. The schools are then invited to select three students to represent their student body at the Cherry Creek Arts Festival and Friday, July 3, 2015. These ARTrepreneurs will be given a budget, donated by Janus, to select and purchase art for a permanent installation in their school, and later present the purchase to a panel of experts and general public at the the Janus Student Art Buying Showcase.
Anyone can apply on behalf of the school and while the program is geared toward students from 5th to 9th grade, students outside of these grades will be considered. Don’t miss out on this unique opportunity for your schools and students. Application deadline is March 13, 2015.
