Diamonds in the Ruff

Aster Dog at Stone Leaf Pottery

As Stone Leaf Pottery patrons, you have probably noticed that we have a great affection for dogs here. In turn, we have noticed that many of you share these affections. We welcome all well behaved dogs into our business to sniff while you shop. From big to small, we always enjoy when puppies come to visit.

Maybe it is because so many of you schedule your glaze restocking trips based around our K-9 staff member, Aster’s, work schedule. It should, then, come as no surprise that one of your favorite organizations to support in our community is Freedom Service Dogs for America.

We are looking forward to participating in their annual “Diamonds in the Ruff” silent auction charity event. Freedom Service Dogs for America (FSD) rescues dogs from shelters and trains them specifically for individual clients with disabilities and special needs. These dogs go on to make priceless changes in the quality of life of their human companions.

However the time and cost of their training is vast. Each dog takes about 8-12 months to train and $25,000 to prepare for their new owner’s specific needs. As staff and teachers here at Stone Leaf, we love supporting a cause we are passionate about by doing what we love and know best: making pots!

Many of us will be contributing handmade ceramic dog bowls for the silent auction, and would like to extend the invitation to participate in this way to you. If you would like to donate a dog bowl, please drop finished work off here at Stone Leaf with your business card or contact information no later than Saturday, September 26th.

** Please make sure any dog bowls donated are food safe and water tight, as well as dishwasher, microwave, and oven safe. **

The annual Diamond in the Ruff fundraiser for Freedom Service Dogs for America will be held on Saturday, October 24th, and the silent auction is only one of the many fun things planned for the night. If you are interested in attending, making an in kind donation, or just finding out more information about FSD please go to www.freedomservicedogs.org.
