Happy June, June bugs! While this rainy weather’s been refreshing, we’re itching for park days and summer activities. There are plenty of things to look forward to this month, Pride being a big one. With a variety of markets and events leading up to the end of the month, we hope you’re looking forward to it as much as we are!

Among those events include Glazed Ceramics Studio’s June 2nd Anniversary and Pride Party, Chroma: a Pride Queer art showcase and vendor market on June 2nd, and the Rainbow Market on June 10th! These celebrations will feature a variety of local artists and vendors, leading up to the Denver Pride Parade, happening June 24-25th! For more information on other events, check out this website.

As we sweep into our spring cleaning, we want to extend that to our lovely bulletin board. From the 4th of July weekend onward, we will be cleaning off the board and starting fresh! If you’d like to retrieve previous fliers, or replace them with fresh ones, feel free to swing by or let us know. After the 4th, we’ll be keeping the bulletin board a little neater so visitors can peruse with ease.

A reminder to our firing folks:

Our firing services are officially raising in price, starting today, June 1st! The new prices are listed below. Unfortunately, the speed and volume we were firing at incurred greater costs for insurance, equipment maintenance and repair.

Load fee: $0.35 per item to bisque $0.55 per item to glaze fire to cone 06 or cone 5

Stilt fee: $1.00 per stilt used

Weight fee: $0.34 per ounce, cone 04 bisque $0.50 per ounce, cone 06 glaze $0.75 per ounce, cone 5 glaze

Additionally, please note the following is a part of our new policy: No discounts will be given, even if you’ve been a frequent-fire customer in the past If no firing appointment is made ahead of time, there will be a $10 walk in fee There will continue to be black out dates where we cannot accept pieces to fire. Check our sign-up calendar and make an appointment before you drive here with your pieces

Speaking of fire, check out this great company-wide photo the Mayco crew were kind enough to send to us from Hilliard, Ohio! Front and center are Colleen Carey Brennan and Adam Carey, mother and son owners of Mayco.

CLAY OF THE MONTH

BMX by Rocky Mountain Clay

$11 per bag

Kate’s selected BMX as the clay of the month, and as we’ve been testing it in the studio lately, the staff’s pretty stoked. BMX is a smooth clay body with very light grit, maintaining the stability one expects from a Rocky Mountain clay. Buttery to throw on the wheel and easy to sculpt with on the worktable, BMX is a veritable dark horse amongst the mid-fire clays. Never thought you could love anything but B-Mix? Take the teeniest step out of your comfort zone and give a safe and easy-to-work-with alternative a try. It serves as a gorgeous light clay body that reflects nicely a wide range of glaze formulas and commercial glazes. Depending on the amount of reduction kiln atmosphere BMX fires white to a light, stormy sky gray.

Here’s another cool example from Facebook. Don’t miss out on this truly solid deal, try some BMX today!

TOOL OF THE MONTH

Fineline Precision Applicators

20% off all sizes

Kate’s tool of the month, Fineline slip-trailing bottles, are a staple for glaze and slip application. If you’ve never given one of these babies a try, get ready to have your studio changed for the better. Non-clogging, reusable and the Michelangelo squeeze-bottle equivalent, Fineline Precision Applicators are perfect for accurate, controlled placement. Use them to draw complex, precise designs on ceramic pieces with your favorite liquid media! Coming in a variety of gauge sizes, these tools serve as an endless realm of opportunities. The airtight cap-and-wire system guarantees your materials are ready for immediate use and won't dry out, while the durability allows for a range of media, from glaze and slip to mason stains and underglaze.

GLAZE OF THE MONTH

Mayco’s Dark Flux and Light Flux

$14 per pint, $4.50 per 4oz

Kate’s selected a fan-favorite duo for the glaze of the month. Get pumped, because this special deserves a dance party. If you don’t know why this is such great news, imagine a glaze that works as both a topper and a base pairing for most mid-fire commercial glazes out there. Have a glaze you want to spice up with some movement, or chemical reactions, or straight up change the whole look? Give either of these fellas a try. As the name suggests, these glazes cause other glazes to “flux”, or change during a firing. Apply 2-3 coats of Flux under or over another mid-range glaze to bring about “hidden colors”. Flux can be brushed in layers, glaze trailed, plopped with a brush, and blotted with a sponge. The thicker the application, the more mobility there will be.

Here are some amazing examples of Mayco’s Light and Dark Flux!

That’s all for now, folks! Happy potting and we look forward to seeing you around the store!
